'University can teach you skill and give you opportunity, but it can't teach you sense nor give you understanding. Sense and understanding are produced within one's soul.' - C.JoyBell C
From 2008 till 2011 I have been studying at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg, Austria where I did my BA in Innovation & Management in Tourism. After my studies I decided to see what I wanted to do and went back to The Netherlands, worked in Berlin, went back to The Netherlands again and finally decided I missed Austria so much that I took on a job in the tourism research department of the university where I graduated from. As my goal is to do my PhD I decided in September 2012 to start to study the MA course of the study I did at the FH Salzburg. At the moment I am in my second semester MA Innovation & Management in Tourism at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg.
Next to my studies I continued working in the tourism research department. In November 2011 I presented my BA Thesis at the eTourism Brennpunkt in Salzburg and in April 2013 I will present my academic paper relating to my BA Thesis at the ISCONTOUR also in Salzburg. Apart from being an academic at the University of Applied Sciences I also work in a marketing agency, called KIM Die Denkunion, in Salzburg.
BA Thesis
Due to my interest for digital marketing I decided to write in regard to this topic and linked it to my favourite country: New Zealand. As New Zealand is far, far, far away and internet is still something unusual, I thought it was interesting to research on why small hostels in New Zealand should implement social networks for marketing purposes. With Facebook being the biggest social network in the world and Twitter growing again in some countries I wanted to know if this is also important for these small hostels at the end of the world. I flew to New Zealand and interviewed various hostel owners and social media experts in order to research this topic.
In the end it taught me a lot about the country, culture, language and their internet usage. My thesis has only been researching the supplier side of social network marketing and therefore provides only a one side answer to this topic. However,it seems to be important for this country and these hostels, unfortunately only few hostels are actually applying social networks for marketing purposes. I was there as well to explain the possibilities but without the time and resources it is still impossible for New Zealand to utilise this new media on full capacity.
The following link will send your to my thesis in regard to; Social network marketing for small hostels in New Zealand.
However, it's not over yet. I hope to receive my MA diploma in 2014 and continue with my PhD after that :)
However, I am always in for some academic challenges so have a look at my CV and contact me if you like what you read ;)
